The house is a Grade II Listed property on Waterloo Terrace overlooking Fore Street, the oldest street in Ilfracombe. The building was fully restored to Grade II specifications in 2006 when it was run as 'The Eclectick' bar, restaurant and art gallery until mid 2016, when I bought it and converted the huge ground floor into private guest lodgings. After a major refurbishment, I have re-opened the New! Improved! Old Eclectick, now with a fully functional kitchen and second shower room.
I'm London born + bred, but in 2016 I decided to leave 'The Big Dirty City' to fulfil my hankering after the Great Outdoors and my love of coastal walks, so moved to the enchanting Victorian seaside town of Ilfracombe! Converting The Old Eclectick from a bar and restaurant was a labour of love – it took almost a year before I was able to welcome my first guests in Feb 2017. After almost 3 years of happy guests, I embarked on a major refurb, which was completed in June 2020, making The Old Eclectick a fully self-catering private apartment (with two shower rooms!) Every stick of furniture has been carefully sourced (often upcycled) and in some cases, lovingly chalk-painted!. It’s pretty ‘Bohemian’ - my style being about creating homely comfort, colour & practicality!
Ideally located within 2 mins of Ilfracombe Harbour and pretty much anywhere in this historic Victorian seaside town – including direct access to the South West Coast Path - ‘foodie’ Fore Street has become renowned for its diverse and top quality restaurants. The property is opposite the Michelin-starred Thomas Carr at The Olive Room and a stone’s throw from the harbour and the best fish ‘n chips in town!
