The Old Railway Station B&B is a restored former station set in the South Downs National Park. There are 2 guest rooms in the Station House, the other 8 are in fully-restored Edwardian Pullman railway carriages. The whole station has been converted into an unusual and elegant hotel with free Wi-Fi throughout.
The upper station house room has a vaulted ceiling and is approached via a spiral staircase. The lower station house room is all one one level and easier to access for those with limited mobility.
Our six Classic Pullman Carriage rooms are available on Booking.com.
During Covid safe times breakfast can be delivered to the carriages to enable guests to stay safe and can be eaten on the platform if the weather allows.
Petworth village is 1.2 miles away from the Old Railway Station. Chicester is a 25-minute drive while Bognor Regis and the seaside are 30 minutes away.
When guests arrive at The Old Railway Station B&B they pull up to the restored wooden station building, built in Victorian times, but given a colonial twist. Check-in is now non-contact to ensure social distancing, however staff are there to ensure guests feel welcomed and relaxed during their stay at our B&B The two rooms in the station house boast super king size beds and en-suites with walk-in showers. The upper station house room has a vaulted ceiling and is approached via a spiral staircase. The lower station house room is all one one level and easier to access for those with limited mobility. The eight rooms in converted Edwardian Pullman carriages are all individual, with different detailing and features. We have two larger rooms, our King Pullmans, which are slightly longer and have a bath and shower in the en-suite. Its quite a unique experience spending the night in a train carriage and imagining all those that may have travelled on it in the past. Breakfast is currently served in the rooms or on the platform if the weather is nice. We are now offering room service if we are unable to open our Waiting Room. The gardens are quite something and are lovingly cared for. Each room has tea and coffee making facilities, en-suite bathrooms and flat-screen TVs. Free wi-fi is available throughout - although you may wish to leave the present behind. Petworth town is 1.8 miles north, Goodwood and Chichester are within a 25-minute drive while Bognor Regis and the seaside are 30 minutes away. We unfortunately cannot accommodate under 10s.
We see ourselves as custodians of the Old Railway Station, rather than the owners. We fell in love with the place, just like our predecessors before us. It is such a beautiful building and really does make you forget about the modern world (even if just for a moment). Our staff here are a real team, and all of us want our guests to enjoy their stay and hope that what we do enables that. Each award received by the Old Station is an award for us all and we all take pride in what we do. Our carriages are very special, they and the building itself take a great deal of time (and money) to keep them in good condition. Their upkeep provides constant work for us, and by staying at the station guests can rest assured that they are helping ensure that our little part in the history books stays alive in some way.
The Old Railway Station is set in The South Downs National Park an area of outstanding natural beauty. Set a little of the beaten track, yet only a minute or so walk from The Badgers Pub and Cuttershaw Beam Pump. The historic Town of Petworth is 1.8 miles to the North with a range of eateries and antique shops as well as The National Trust's Petworth House and Gardens. Goodwood, Chichester & Arundel are all approx a 20 minute drive.
