The Old School

A converted primary school set in 2 acres of garden, a 5-minute drive from the town of New Cumnock, The Old School offers bed and breakfast accommodation with free Wi-Fi.

Each room used to be a classroom and has a large bathroom and a seating area with a sofa and flat-screen TV. Guests can also enjoy tea/coffee making facilities and an electric blanket if needed.

A cooked breakfast is served in the morning and produce is sourced locally. The Old School can provide an evening meal if booked in advance, or facilities to eat meals from a local take-away in the comfort of the dining room. The nearest restaurant is a 15-minute drive away.

The Old School faces the Nith Valley and has stunning views of the surrounding countryside and rolling hills. Prestwick Airport is located 30 miles away.

Information about the host

The Old School enjoys a tranquil rural location with beautiful views across the Nith valley. The rooms are exceptionally large and furnished comfortably. The Old School was originally built to serve the needs of the miners families employed in the area. At one time there were over 200 children at the school. When the underground mines were closed down the families moved away leaving the empty school which fell into disrepair and was derelict for several years. Finding a new purpose for the building has meant a new lease of life.
