The Old Wash Kitchen holiday cottage is the lower half of a pair of 1850 character cottages, known locally as an underdwelling*, with unique features such as the upper floor lounge to take advantage of the river and hillside views, and with a cosy Esse gas stove. The ground floor houses the 2 bedrooms with the double bedroom having direct access to the riverside lane to the rear of the cottage, a beautiful antique carved mahogany bed and exposed stone walls. The bathroom* is located inside one of the cottages two vaulted cellars and includes a 4 piece suite consisting of full size bath, basin, toilet and walk in shower. The upper floor kitchen is spacious and well equipped with all you're likely to need and incorporates the dining area offering a family sized dining table and chairs. There is a small, secluded, stone flagged area to the front with seating for 2 where you can enjoy a morning coffee or the odd glass of wine (or 3!) on an evening and to the the rear of the cottage a door opens on to a lane beside the river where you can feed the ducks and watch the local wildlife - and spot some familiar Last of the Summer Wine filming locations!
The location is ideally placed for guests who prefer to make use of public transport with the bus stop to Holmfirth, outlying villages and Huddersfield (8 miles away) to connect with train services, less than 100 yds away. The local minibus stops on the lane at the rear of the cottage to take you to Holmfirth centre and local villages, and local taxis are competitively priced and readily available. **PLEASE BE AWARE** *Although inside the bathroom is spacious and full height, the doorway is only 5 feet high and may be difficult to negotiate if less mobile/agile. *As this is an underdwelling please expect to hear everyday living noises from the neighbours above and consideration with regards to noise must also given to them. *Up to 2 well behaved, house trained dogs are welcome by arrangement at no extra charge.
