The Stables is set within the grounds of our big house which we let for large groups - however, we never let the 2 properties at the same time. The property has been within the same family for 200 years and is steeped in history. So, you get to enjoy the large 4 acre garden and the luxury hot tub all to yourselves. Enjoy the whole of the 4 acre garden and the luxury hot tub too! Sit on the terrace and dine alfresco or play on the lawn. Please be aware that the garden has an unfenced waterway (mill leat) and children will need supervision at all times. Please note - Our gardening/maintenance couple will be around the vicinity doing general work during your stay. You may not even notice them, as they are very discreet. During the summer months (May - end September) there is a marquee permanently outside the Stables on the lawn. We have a small, office onsite for our big house letting agency, so we are around if you need some advice or a helping hand with something - otherwise, you won't be disturbed by us. We'll give you our duty manager's phone number for any out of hours needs you may have.
Having been in hospitality all our lives, myself, my 3 partners and our whole team really want to provide our guests with the best possible experience from the moment of enquiring, right through the entire stay at our houses. Flexibility is what we strive for, so that your stay is as unique as you want it to be. We have a small onsite office and our guests find it very useful that the we are on hand if you want some information about the local area or need some help. But, we leave you in peace the rest of your stay. Our gardener/maintenance man is occasionally working very discreetly in the grounds too and will keep an eye on the hot tub for you during your stay.
The Stables are on the edge of the town of Wellington, which is a market town with an excellent range of shops, independent boutiques, deli's and high street supermarkets. Around this area of Somerset we'd recommend you enjoy the Blackdown Hills and the Quantock Hills for walking, mountain biking, riding, nature watching and the lovely pubs nearby. There are plenty of family attractions in the area including the West Somerset Steam Railway, the Big Sheep, Dunster Castle, Fleet Air Arm Museum and Wookey Hole Caves. The Stables are half way between the north and south coasts, so you can choose either for a great day out. On the south coast our favourites are Sidmouth, Lyme Regis and Branscombe. On the North Coast we enjoy fossil hunting at Kilve and the big expanses of beach at Minehead. We suggest you have a car so that you can explore the local area. However, the mainline train station at Taunton is 20 minutes by taxi and there is a bus stop near the end of our driveway that has regular buses to Taunton.
