The flat is called The Steamboat as it was once part of the old Steamboat Inn which operated during the 1800s and early 1900s. The adjacent Wick Harbour has a fascinating history having been the centre of the European Herring Industry in the 1800s. Mounted on the outside wall of the property is a barometer to commemorate the 37 fishermen that were lost during a violent storm on "Black Saturday, 19th August 1848". Wick Harbour is still busy to this day with a mixture of boats from leisure craft and commercial fishing boats to modern vessels serving Beatrice Offshore Wind-Farm.
