Tinsmith’s House is a tranquil and stylish bed and breakfast from where your exploration of North Norfolk and the Norfolk Broads begin. Located in the market town of Aylsham, 10 miles north of Norwich and within easy reach of the North Norfolk Coast, Tinsmith’s House is the ideal place to stay and experience the many attractions on offer across this beautiful county. Our rooms are well-appointed and decorated in natural colours. We have two double rooms, both rooms are furnished with an eclectic mixture of re-purposed, antique and contemporary furniture. Each room has been thoughtfully decorated with contemporary art of the non-threatening variety. Elephant is a generous double bedroom with its own en-suite shower room, whilst our larger bedroom, Blofields, has exclusive access to its own luxurious bathroom across a hallway from it that is equipped with both shower and roll top bath. There is free WiFi available throughout the house. We serve high quality, fresh ingredients from our local producers based in or close to Aylsham. We can provide full English or vegetarian breakfasts and combinations thereof, served with fresh tea and coffee.
Tinsmith’s House is owned by Paul and Paul. It is the latest previously industrial building that we have made into our home, but it is our first and only B&B. We are still relative rookies, but we have been wanting to do this for a while, so had a clear vision of what kind of establishment we wanted to run and we learn fast. We have had successful careers working in commercial design and contemporary art and having reached a certain age found that our design work was not as interesting as it had been when younger. We were looking for a distinct change when we moved from Islington in central London to Aylsham, North Norfolk in 2012. We knew that we wanted to run a bed and breakfast, or some kind of guest house. It seemed like a natural progression for us to live and work in the same place. With its flexible layout from its industrial heritage, Tinsmith’s seemed to offer the best kind of accommodation in an idiosyncratic, hand-built package. We have 2 very friendly labradoodles (mother and daughter) living with us. They are kept in a separate place away from guest bedrooms and are content to be caged especially when guests prefer not to have them nearby or have a fear of dogs.
Aylsham lies on the River Bure, 10 miles north of Norwich, and is the perfect place to locate yourself to discover the grand houses of Norfolk and the Broads. Nearby Cromer and Sheringham offer the more traditional seaside attractions, whilst the countryside lying in between is well worth getting lost in! From here you can easily access the Broads and more rugged east coast as well as Norwich. You can also get to the North Norfolk coast via Holt. From Salt Marsh villages through to Holkham, Wells and up to Houghton and the Royal Sandringham estate. Aylsham is surrounded by a few of the most historically and architecturally interesting grand houses in the county, such as the National Trust’s Blickling Hall and Felbrigg Hall. You can also enjoy the estates of Mannington Hall and Wolterton Park, still privately owned.
