Dolgellau is an old market town, which has seen Gold Mining and Tanning Industries. The Royal Clogau Gold came from the Dolgellau Gold Mines. There is still a busy livestock market in the town, which also hosts an antiques and bric-a-brac sale at the end of nearly every month; great entertainment even if you don't buy! Locally there are many beautiful walks for most abilities, notably our own Cader Idris Mountain and the old railway track, which takes you alongside the Wnion River and then the Mawddach Estuary, all the way to Fairbourne, which you can hop on the little ferry across the estuary to Barmouth. We also have one of the most important mountain biking centres in the world - only seven miles up the road - Coed-y-Brenin, which is also a fabulous place to just go for a walk. They have a beautiful cafe and visitor centre, and mountain bike hire and shop. A little further away, but still within easy access are the lovely beaches of Fairbourne and Barmouth. Blaenau Ffestiniog has Llechwedd Slate Caverns, with new attractions of Bounce Below and and Zip Line. These are just a few of the great things to see and do whilst in the area.
