Information about the host

" Upstairs. Downstairs at Epworth House " - the apartment's name comes from it's former role as the Housekeepers quarters in our Victorian vicarage .It has it's own entrance at the side of the building ( please note that the view from the lounge is of the adjacent garage wall ! ) - the photo of the church and graveyard are taken from the first floor bedroom window. You enter into a fully equipped compact kitchen with oven, hob, microwave, fridge / freezer and washing machine - all utensils etc. are provided. In the lounge area there is a large sofa , storage drawers and a 43" smart TV. the steep and winding stairs ( sorry we consider them unsuitable for children or anyone with mobility issues ) lead to the large first floor bedroom with king size bed, occasional chairs, desk and walk in wardrobe. The bathroom has a W.C., sink, bath with shower over and a heated towel rail. Parking is on street on Drovers Lane outside Epworth House - we provide complimentary visitors parking permits for the duration of your stay. We have free secure bicycle storage on request. See our other apartment on" The Eyrie at Epworth House " awarded a Certificate of Excellence for 2018,

" Epworth House " was the Vicarage for Christ Church , Penrith and built in the 1850's. This large sandstone building was sold by the Church in the 1960's to the Fire Brigade to house staff for the then nearby Fire Station - it was then converted it into 4 separate apartments all with their own entrances. After 10 years the Fire Station was relocated to the edge of town and " Epworth House " was sold to the family we purchased it from. The last owner was a cabinet maker for the National Trust and maintained the building to the highest standard. We viewed " Epworth House " and fell in love with it and bought it early in 2018 - we refurbished " The Eyrie " , Flat 4 and made it available via Booking Com from May 2018 - in our first season we were awarded a " Certificate of Excellence " for guest satisfaction with a score of 9.8.. Now refurbished and available from April 2019 " Upstairs, Downstairs " offers a style of accommodation in keeping with the building.

" Epworth House " is located in the " New Streets comservation area " of Penrith - we have lots o fine sandstone buildings in this area. The main street of Penrith starts around 200 yards from us and continues through the town with all of the usual town centre shops plus a good selection of first class independant retailers. Close to hand we have a choice of supermarkets - Morrisons, Booths, Sainsburys, M & S Foodhall etc. plus excellent local specialists Cranstons. Penrith has a vibrant nightlife with a vast choice of restaurants for any taste plus we have around 15 pubs and a nightclub all within easy walking distance - ask us for information of our current favorites. A short journey from us and your in Pooley Bridge at the head of Lake Ullswater and in the Northern Lake District - travel further West on the A66 and you come to the more remote Lakes off the beaten tourist trail where time seems to have stood still with the natural beauty untouched. Carlisle, Gretna Green and the Scottish Border are all a 30 minute car journey form us - the Roman Wall sites are around 1 hour away.
