We are an 'Adults Only' (16+) guesthouse, offering the type of accommodation we would like ourselves when we stay away from home. The house is more than 100 years old and situated on Shanklin Cliff, just 5 minutes walk from the beach and 15 minutes from Shanklin old Village. Westbury Lodge is a great base for exploring the whole island both by car and public transport. Transport from the mainland is frequent and varied; from car ferries to hovercraft! We welcome well behaved dogs in our allocated dog friendly rooms. We have 8 en-suite bedrooms, 4 superior (spacious and light) and 4 standard. All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities with fresh milk. There are hairdryers and flat screen TVs (Freeview) in all bedrooms. There is free WiFi throughout the building. We offer a breakfast buffet and selection of hot breakfasts; all served in our attractive dining room. Should the weather not be conducive to outdoor activities' you are welcome to relax in our comfortable guest sitting room. Help yourself to complimentary tea and coffee and you are welcome to borrow books, games and jigsaws. Westbury Lodge has been a guest house for over 20 years.
We took over the Guest House in early 2020 and are very excited to be sharing our new home on this lovely island! Rosemary has a background in the hotel industry and more recently ran a successful training business providing customer service, sales and management training to the hospitality sector. Originally from Barbados, David has spent the last 20 years working as a chef in London for Capital Cafes and then one of the Browns restaurants in London's financial district. We love being out in the fresh air and look forward to exploring the coastal path on foot and the Islands many cycle paths. We love wildlife and Rosemary is a keen gardener. One of our first actions was to join Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust who run a number of reserves on the Island. Perfect for birdwatchers, walkers and lovers of wildlife. Did you know that we are one of few places in the UK that still have Red Squirrels. We both really enjoy hosting friends to stay and ensuring everyone leaves with happy memories of a great time. We look forward to extending that warm welcome to our guests.
Shanklin is a town that has everything. The beach, quaint Old Village, cliff walks and a huge choice of places to eat. Shanklin is the destination of the 'Wight Line' railway that runs from Ryde and links Shanklin to the Ferrys and Hovercraft coming over from Portsmouth. Westbury Lodge is less than 5 minutes walk from the Coastal Path. Did you know you can walk all the way around the Island and 'Walk the Wight' is an annual walking festival that brings many to the Island to join in on the round Island and shorter walks. If you are feeling energetic, a 30 minute walk along the shoreline or cliff path will take you to the seaside town of Sandown. In the other direction we are just 5 miles from the attractive village of Ventnor. A visit to Osbourne House (summer home of Queen Victoria) is a must and this is just a 30 minute drive away on the outskirts of Cowes. Cowes is the world renowned centre of sailing and 'Cowes Week' is a must for every sailor. For the beginner, you can take sailing lessons or for the less adventurous, hire a Kayak or Paddle Board. There are many other great places to visit such as the Garlic Farm, White Pearl, Allum Bay and The Needles to name a few.
