Information about the host

Brickyard Farm was the place where tiles and bricks were manufactured in Wedmore at the beginning of the 20th century. Wilf's Barn has been lovingly converted, from one of the barns where they were made, into a cosy romantic cottage for two which retains some of the original features such as a beautiful old wooden beam and the original bricks from the floor which have been used to create a stunning open fireplace. There is underfloor heating throughout the ground floor in the bathroom and open plan living/dining/kitchen area. The bathroom has a bath with shower above. The bedroom with crisp cotton linen on the bed is on a mezzanine level under the eaves and fluffy bathrobes are provided too. The cottage is surrounded by a gravelled terrace where you can enjoy a peaceful cup of coffee in the morning and a cold glass of wine and a barbecue on a summer evening. An old trough and stone urns are filled with flowers. You will find all the basic items such as tea, coffee, milk, oil and vinegar as well as a welcome pack in the cottage. Please note that access is quarter of a mile down a gravel farm track. Parking is right outside the cottage.

We have lived here since 1999 and have been welcoming guests to Wilf's Barn since 2006. We like to leave our guests in peace to enjoy their stay but can always be contacted for advice or just to say hello as we live on the other side of the garden.

The cottage is a few minutes walk from the centre of the village of Wedmore with it's three pubs, two of which serve delicious food, and various shops including a delicatessen, fishmonger/greengrocer, farm shop/butcher, chemist, gift and clothes shops, vintage shop and Village Stores. Just outside the village is a very friendly golf club and of course we are on the edge of the Somerset Levels famous for their nature reserves and starling murmurations. A few miles away are the stunning Mendip Hills, perfect for a good walk and of course the world famous Cheddar Gorge and Caves. Glastonbury Tor and Wells Cathedral are only a 20 minute drive from here.
