The Bull Pen is a new building; built to a high quality with modern fixtures&fittings, good insulation and heating, and big windows for light and the view. Designed to keep a feel for its history as a working farm building. Each of the 3 bedrooms leads off from the central main living area . A peaceful spot which provides an opportunity to explore the open countryside from the doorstep. The location is ideal to combine 'time in' the city exploring (parking for the park&ride bus into Cambridge is 10 mins. away) and 'time-out' of the city! The Bull Pen offers comfort throughout the seasons with French doors and ceiling fans for warm summer days and underfloor heating, LED flame effect fire place, 4 + 10 tog duvet and triple glazing for a cosy winter break. The accommodation, with easy parking and good access, is set in a quiet spot in the countryside with a lovely view across traditional meadow with mature oak & ash trees.
Sally and Nick live on site in the farmhouse at Chapman's Farm. Nick runs the farm and Sally is a part-time primary teacher. We have both always live in Cambridgeshire and know the area very well. We enjoy the outdoors and when we're not working, we like to run or cycle round the local footpaths and bridleways, or go scuba diving round the British coast. The farm is an arable farm but we also, usually have a few cattle in the meadow near the farm to enjoy and to keep the meadow grass mown.
Bourn has two exceptionally good restaurants (a bistro and an Indian), two cafes (for a lovely brunch or lunch) and a local butcher & farm shop (if you fancy cooking or a BBQ at home). There are lovely winding footpaths and bridleways that provide endless possibilities for rambling or off-road cycling, from the shortest walks to the local rural cafe or pub or keep going all day to explore further a field (with several circular routes of varying lengths; maps available). One of our favourites is Wimpole Estate (N.T.) to enjoy the grounds (designed by Capability Brown) with a lovely lunch. Other local favourites could be a visit to Grantchester Tea Rooms and Meadows with walks along the river Cam, and a visit to Burwash Manor which has small independent shops plus a deli with cafe. Cambridge can provide several days enjoyment: visiting the museums, a climb up Great StMary's tower for a panoramic view, plus taking a city walking or bus tour of the university and collages will make a full day, and a second day could be spent on the river Cam punting (chauffeured if you don't fancy your own chances!) followed by a peaceful afternoon walk around the University Botanical Gardens.
